'Umbro (LSE: UMB) is a UK sportswear and equipment supplier based in Cheadle, Greater Manchester, England.'

'Cheadle is a small town in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in Greater Manchester'

'The Metropolitan Borough of Trafford is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester'

what is and isn't in Manchester seems to vary dependent on the point you want to make.

Umbro was based in Manchester for years. If memory serves one of the founders was at one time heavily involved with the club. Maybe Dave can confirm. They also still have a studio near oldham st in town. That's 'Manchester' enough for me.

By the way, on the Cheadle point, it does seem that our blue brethren change the Mancunian boundaries as and when it suits.

Does someone want to tell them where Cheadle actually is?

I don't see any 'giddiness'.

Cheadle is far closer to Manchester than Islington. I don't see what you are getting at with the picture. That maybe a Cheadle branch flag but the owner could well be from Manchester. Unless you are of the opinion that no Mancunians have ever moved to Cheadle. I would gladly consider any evidence to the contrary that you may be able to supply.

If you were Mancunian by birth, why the f*ck would you put Cheadle on your flag?

Why, in any case, would you put Cheadle and 'This Is Our City' on the same flag anyway? It doesn't really do the argument much good, does it?

And no doubt there is a flag somewhere with "Islington Reds" on it, as there are many from around the world. I've yet to see a non-Mancunian place name flag with "Manchester is Red" on it, though. Common sense prevails, y'see.

Still, carry on. It's all very amusing what's coming out of Eastlands at the moment.

Republik of Mancunia with Reading on it last season.

The city flag could well have been a Cheadle branch flag, as I stated above. Hardly unlikely is it? I personally think it looks silly but neither of us know the facts.

The fact that plenty of you jump on the scouse-manc rivalry even though many of the fans are cockneys, Irish and south east Asian is cringeworthy.

What is coming out of Eastlands?

Fair enough. That's just as f*cking stupid as the Cheadle flag.

It is a Cheadle branch flag. Cheadle isn't in Manchester. So why have "This Is Our City" on a flag for Cheadle? I know you're attempting to close ranks here, but surely you can see how daft it is? Mind you, I guess it's the done thing at city.

Enfield Exile wrote:The fact that plenty of you jump on the scouse-manc rivalry even though many of the fans are cockneys, Irish and south east Asian is cringeworthy.

Yeah. God forbid that Mancunian and Liverpudlian football clubs have an intense rivalry even though fans on both sides aren't from those cities. I guess the Mancunians and scousers out there should just forget about it? Or maybe, God forbid, some of them base it on footballing rivalry only? After all, take the city rivalry out of it and the two clubs still have huge reasons to be strong rivals. Eighteen times, five times, three times... And so on.

Enfield Exile wrote:What is coming out of Eastlands?

Extreme giddiness, we're going to become one of the biggest clubs in the world, we'll be buying the best players in the world, we're the richest club in the world and you're all jealous, blah, blah... That "Welcome to Manchester" billboard is one of the most laughable things I've ever seen in my life. It's funny how one of the few decent blues I've actually spoken to about the Arab takeover doesn't like it. She sees the club turning into everything you've all slagged United off for since the '90s and doesn't like it. Most of you are lapping it up without a thought of any of that. Happy to sell out for the hope of success.

By the way, before you say it, the above also goes for Chelsea, United and Liverpool fans who see no problem with their respective owners as long as the trophies roll in. It's a sad indictment of modern football that won't stop until it all goes horribly wrong.

Still, you enjoy yourselves, won't you?

So you, for instance, wouldn't be a 'local' boy if you went out of the country for work?

Strange.

As I have said before, these are the things you have slagged Utd off for 'selling our soul' during the last 20 years, but now you are doing exactly same yet still carrying on with the local club act.

Surely any right minded city fan must have cringed when the players were on sky sports news singing happy birthday to Nelson Mandela. And putting happy birthday messages on the scoreboard for the Thai prime minister?

Anyone off here putting in for the new banner at city thanking the arabs for everything they've done for the club?

Not a bad looking forward line up there i think Tottenham should be challenging Europa League places next season with the squad they have...
