My understanding is that it's the work of the fans but receives the blessing of the club.
Wasn't there some issue about the said banner obstructing advertisement at Old Trafford, but the club said that the banner could stay there permanently?
City fans have Welcome to Manchester banners at CoM. However, Ferguson hasn't mentioned those in the past. He's probably offended by the fact that MCFC were involved in the poster campaign. He said it was 'classless'. If he wants a great example of 'classless', he should try and remember the Munich '58 memorial poster that contained the name of the sponsor. That was probably as 'classless' as you can get.
People are now saying that Ferguson is belittling us, because he sees us as a threat, or he is playing some mind game. Nonsense. Ferguson knows his football, without a doubt. However, please don't give him any undeserved credit. He's not an intelligent man. He's an arrogant, humourless bully who lacks social skills.

He's clearly got you riled, though, otherwise you wouldn't be talking about it at such great length. Job done.

Yet he doesn't have any problem getting well established football players to come and play for him!!!!
He was shot in both arms , and both legs. He later died because of his injuries. Tommy 25th March 2007.
Salford City Reds are the National League Champions again and nobody will ever win a Grand Final more dramatically than this. Division One champions, Grand Final winners, winners of the Northern Rail Cup; everything their hearts desired. Down and out? Not a bit of it, they are never out. Memories are made of this forever and a day, Salford fans will ask "where did you watch the 2008 Grand Final? Where did you see John Wilshere save the day with the last kick of the ball?"

Ferguson is a hypocrite. He's proven that many times over since 2005 with his sudden change in attitude and principles towards supporters' groups at Old Trafford.
Doesn't change the fact that he's managed to do exactly what he wanted to do here, though.

Football manager is a hypocrite shocker! You'd struggle to find one that isn't.

The Welcome to Manchester sign was the best when it had "Stockport branch" on it.

What has he done?
Are you saying that his over-reaction and loss of temper is 'job done'.
How strange.
I'm quite calm about it. In fact, City fans on the forums have been laughing about it. However, United fans have been frothing at the moment, coming out with "They should be reported to UEFA on the grounds of provocation" and "United is in Manchester", and my favourite "The irony is that United were formed in Manchester but City were founded in Gorton, which isn't in Manchester".
You wouldn't believe how much fun we have had over this episode.
