A Letter to EX.SALF.UNI
I wont reply to your post with any other comment except as to answer you questions.
1)Combined Mind - very funny, glad the university education worked.
2)I have never doubted the boards commitment to the club, but it still doesnt make them effective. You may think surving is a result but they dont.
3)If you want to know i thought we would finish bottom so i am extatic that i am wrong.
4)3yrs ago saints attendence 7000 (and im sure on SKY) this yr 5000, difference 2000 Why people thought it would be a hammering and stay away. 2000 people paying lets say on average a £10, £20k difference on the gate over a season it could be as much as being conservative £200K with the "glory fans going". You work it out. As you have been to Uni read Fortunato, J. (200icon_cool.gif or Shank's book (2005) on sports marketing. People dont watch rubbish
5)online shop yes i agree no demand and it never worked, have a look at the guidelines on the superleague letter released about the ground, it clearly says comercial ( www.superleague.co.uk/article.php?id=14771). Are online shop and merchandisng etc looks really good on our bid doesnt it?
6)Getting a franchise is past, Superleague are talking about the next one the letter is a warning get it sorted, yes they worked really hard on a bid, but unfortuanlty if the promises on that bid are not meet its not going to matter much what we put next time, cos the league wont believe us.
7)as to going out and splashing the cash, its not there, i no that but my point is this
we are behind the league now, they all spend more or have more superleague experience as we have only just come up. We are therefore probably going to struggle next year as everyone else is spending more and we will probably struggle the year after. Celtic wont be kicked out so who will? Us CAS or Wakey?
WHICH IS WHY THE CLUB HAS TO GET ITS OFF FIELD MANAGEMENT RIGHT AND NOW.
You make a joke about the burger stand tills, i wonder if the club owns them or are they are franchised out, reducing revenue further.
Yes we are not a big club but when ppl within are giving downcast messages and they are in the know, what do you expect others to think?

| You talk a lot of sense, the majority of it ([size=75[iand not only this thread[/i[/size), laced with sarcasm. I agree with a lot of what you say, however......
Quote EX.SALF.UNI="EX.SALF.UNI" I have never known us to be a particularly free-flowing side in the top division. '"
....this quote is inaccurate imo.
Unless of course, you have only watched Salford in the SL years, in which case, I tend to agree with you.
I may be in a group of just 1 here, but I personally don't find the type of rugby now being played in SL, as entertaining as it was in [i'the good old days'.[/i I don't think that it's just Salford who can't play free flowing rugby anymore. I'm unsure if that's down to the Aussie coaching techniques in relation to defence, or quite simply that nowadays, the sides with the biggest, fittest and strongest squads will usually come out on top.
My biggest pet-hate is the amount of kicking in the game. It's becoming more like RU as each year goes by. I absolutely despise the cross field kick into the corner on the last tackle. To me it it's a lottery and a poor way to score a try when all other ideas after the 4th or 5th tackle have proved fruitless.

| Listen There are too many "fans" spending to much time complaining about this great club. Yes there look like hard times ahead but lets not make it harder EH !
Has anyone thought that not turning up to games or the idiots shouting abuse at the players is probably harming the club more than anything !!
I have stopped bringing my son to games due to the abuse at the end of a game which is a real shame cause at 4years old he was really getting into rugby(just as i'd finally got through to him its not football there playing)
I wonder how many more people this has effected?
I AM HERE TO SPREAD THE LOVE AND GET EVERYONE'S GOOD SPIRIT BACK
"EARTH!"
"FIRE!"
"WIND!"
"WATER!"
"HEART!"
"Go Planet!"
"By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!"
Captain Planet, he's our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero
He's our powers magnified
And he's fighting on the salford's side
Captain Planet, he's our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero
Gonna help him put asunder
Bad guys who like to loot and plunder
We're the salfordteers
You can be one too
'Cause saving our salford is the thing to do!
Shouting and abusing is not the way
Hear what Captain Planet has to say!

Good post.
There is so much at stake in SL these days that the sport has literally turned into the proverbial arm-wrestle. The sport has become a little too obsessed with statistics, percentages and the strategic side of the game at the expense of free thought and open rugby. Salford just reflects this trend and the sport is certainly a lot flatter than it was a few years ago.
It can still be exciting and physically it is immense, it's just that the game flows and changes with trends. It's no different from most pro sport these days. Creative flair is still there in SL it's just that sides are so much better at countering it these days.
The game we love is constantly evolving and that is why the Rugby is different from the free-flowing stuff seen yesteryear. Whether that is a good thing for us the supporters, who knows?

And why has all this come in it is because of Sky copying the yanks whose sport is so boring they have to have all these stats to show that something has happened. I now turn off boots n all when Cullen does his break down of the plays because apart from his dull monotone voice he is talking absolute b0ll0cks and seems confused, lets get back to attacking rugby and off the cuff moves Kenny Gill and Dave Watkins style.

We wont spend it this year or next year and you can throw Bradford at me but its simple economics, if a team spends the salary cap they can afford a bigger squad to cover injuries or better players. '"
as a professional economist...
thats the quickest way of going bust. spend more than you earn, and be the next widnes, swinton, oldham or rochdale...
