You scousers would already have your excuse for another failure lined up as well.

From the Sky News report 5 of Gerrard's mates have all plead guilty to affray, Gerrard is the only one who has plead not guilty.

That was Gerrard.

Hope he gets sent down for that, doubt he will though because of who he is.

TBH I cannot agree that he should be sent to jail for that.

IMO it's pretty bad for Gerrard. He was the person who instigated the argument. He went back with his friend 6 minutes later and carried it on. His friend then threw a cheap shot with his elbow out of the blue and then Gerrard starts throwing punches at someone who obviously going to be a bit dazed and defenceless. Gerrard then pleads not guilty and seems to be claiming self defence.

While I think Gerrard's attack was cowardly and stupid, I cannot say that it was bad enough for him to be sent down for it. AFAIK it's his first offence, so community service, a small fine and a strong statement from the judge about what a cowardly act he's committed is enough. I reckon there'll be more than enough evidence for a private prosecution from the victim, so Gerrard will probably have to shell out 20 grand to save it from going through another trial.

I think punching somebody repeatedly when they cannot defend themselves because they've already been struck is extremely cowardly and is the type of thing that the courts need to start handing out stricter punishments for.

Oh Stevie. Showing yourself up for what you are. Never mind lad. Unfortunately, the fact you've denied everything when it's as clear as daylight that was you sticking the uppercuts in after your mate has smashed the guy in the face may well mickey all over your chances of a lenient sentence. As far as I'm aware, if you admit guilt you've more chance of getting off lightly than if you contest it, in which case figures in the public eye may find themselves made examples of.

Unless they hand it over to the RFL that is. They can spot a punch but deem it accidental at the same time. Might be his best defence.

Robbie Rotten wrote:Says underneath the video:

After about six minutes Gerrard returned to the victim who was sitting alone at the bar and allegedly confronted him with the words: "Who the f*** do you think you are?"

He might as well have strutted up and said, "do you know who I am??"

Even as a United fan I've always held a grudging respect for Stevie G. I aint pretending United players are perfect - far from it - but Stevie boy has been caught red-handed in a cheap and cowardly attack and he deserves everything he gets. And I'd say the same for anyone.

My God, Liverpool's next failed title attempt is hanging by a thread already!!

Christ, United have won 11 titles in the last 17 years (I think) including 3 in a row twice, one of which is the current run. I hardly think we need Liverpool's tiny foreheaded captain to get locked up to give us 'a chance'.

Liverpool on the other hand haven't won a league title since Michael Jackson was black, George Michael was straight and Russ Abbott was on TV. On that basis, I'm not sure one player is the be all and end all to either team's chances - United are trying to make history (very difficult), Liverpool are trying to change it (similarly tough).

As for $tevie Mbe - if he does get found guilty, I would expect him to get dry humped (metaphorically) by the Judge for putting us all to the expense of a trial when everyone else took responsibility for their actions. If he goes to prison, he may well get dry humped literally. Then we'll see if he's 'really f*****ng hard', never mind whether he's 'scoring from 40 years'.

That's the important factor, his mates have pleaded guilty and he has not. If he is then found guilty the punishment could potentially be worse. I don't even see how he can defend himself for what he did, he is just taking the p*ss.

The thing he, he won't be defending himself for what he did. He'll be defended by the Steven Gerrard of the legal profession.

I reckon his lawyer will pull a "Gerrard" in the 90th minute of the case like Gerrard did against West Ham in the FA Cup final. And then the farker will manage to get the case to "penalties" like Liverpool did.

And we all know what the scousers are like with penalties.

I don't think Gerrard will be sent down anyway. It's not in the public interest for a first time offender to be sent to prison for such a minor offence. Yes, it was a cowardly attack and it deserves strong punishment, but it wasn't of a severity to deserve a prison sentence (well at least not from the CCTV footaage we've seen).

Just think of it this way. The prisons are already overcrowded and the prison service has enough to deal with without having a 50m pound footballer who they have to protect.
