Great stuff from Yorkshire at Headingley, as they allow Durham to get to 421-9 declared

A 147 run 8th wicket partnership allows them to set us a target of 287 in just under 2 sessions. Or, more likely, just under 2 sessions to captiulate and suffer yet another defeat.

It was a particularly inept bowling effort this morning, I think Durham will probably be regretting not declaring sooner and having a crack at us before lunch, because I think we'd have lost.

If it keeps us in the title race I'm not proud to want you lot to win...26 points behind at the minute with half a season to go, if Durham win and go 40 points clear then we're never catching them up...not that we will anyway, but never say never!!

Unless our pathetic batting improves, we're adding another year on to that run. Should try and get Jimmy Anderson back off England :)

Still, second innings yesterday showed they can bat, and bat well.

Didn't hear it myself, but my dad heard VVS on Radio Lancashire and apparently the ball was moving around that much on the first day that none of the batsmen knew what the ball was going to do or how to play it. He said you just couldn't do anything about it and he's never known an Old Trafford pitch behave like it. But as the game went on it stopped moving and flattened out - thankfully we were batting last so we benefitted from that. Interesting to hear, anyway, considering the flat decks Peter Marron used to produce.

I really do think they'd be better off having a clearout, starting again with the promising kids they've got - Lyth, Bairstow, Sayers, Rafiq, Rashid, Shahzad etc - and spending some time in Division Two.

The current regime is just blundering from one inept performance to another, we only seem to be able to play well for one day out of four at the minute.

That's 6 players you've mentioned there. Whilst I agree with the sentiment, what's the point in getting rid of Rudolph and to a lesser extent McGrath. By all means get rid of another couple of players and allow the youngsters in, but they need some mentors. That's one of the reasons why people wanted People Carrier to stick around at Yorkshire, rather than quitting cricket entirely.

Fair enough, stick with Rudolph and make him captain if he wants it.

You've then got players in the mid-20s who are more established, such as Bresnan and Gale.

I've said for a while that I don't think McGrath's heart is in it. I think he seriously wanted to walk away last winter and got bribed/emotionally blackmailed into staying. I'd be waving him goodbye at the end of this year along with Hoggard, Kruis, Brophy and Guy.

With Vaughan already having gone, it gives the team a younger, fresher look and allows them to develop without having to look over their shoulder in fear of getting relegated.

Can't argue with any of that.

I suppose the key is in saying what we're doing before the season starts. If people know we're going for youth and looking at the long term, then relegation wont be the negative it would appear to be at face value.

Of course, the fact we've got Rudolph means we'll probably stay up, he makes enough runs on his own to nearly ensure that!

Seems the P20 that was supposed to start next season, is going to be scrapped in favour of extending the current T20 competition.
