Just wondering if there is a rule against this, and we have been cheating again....

Older posters on this board will remember Malcolm Allison taking over at Manchester City years ago, and giving loads of tickets away to school kids to fill the terraces. That is where a lot of their current loyal fans come from, and now they will be taking their kids and grandkids, f they can afford to. They have probably become latics "fans" now.... hehehehe

By your philosophy, a quarter of most crowds - i.e. the lads whose season tickets are paid for by their dads or grandads - should be classed as freebies as well. So lo and behold, a lot of Warrington's crowd also get in for free.

The Heinz tickets were all paid for. End of.

Your comment is similar to those comments of Latics fans a couple of years ago who couldn't understand why an apparently relegation-doomed Wigan was getting similar crowds to a Premiership football club: "They're giving them away by the bucket load in the town centre. They must be."

That wasn't happening then and it isn't happening now, and people keeping harping on about this are deliberately trying to muddy those very clear waters.

If i give you my ticket for the match, do YOU get a free ticket. Simon Moran pays for coach travel to away games for Warrington fans, i go on this coach and do not pay a pennny did i get free coach travel.Which ever spin you want to put on it the thousands that went with the tickets which was given to them did not pay, so to them they got a free ticket.

But Heinze payed for them, you make no sense.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever

Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go

The tickets were still paid for, so they were NOT free. And this is not just semantics. Someone pays for a service, so it isn't free. It doesn't matter who the recipient of the service is.

But it doesn't surprise me that a Wire fan is unwilling to grasp this basic truth when it concerns Wigan.

You know perfectly well that to say a club generates a big crowd by giving away tickets free has always had negative connotations - regardless of whether it's smart thinking - because it implies that the club can't get anyone to pay to watch them, and is therefore prepared to sustain a financial loss just to make things look good.

That is certainly what some of your fellow Wire posters have been trying to imply about last Friday night.

But in the case of last Friday night, those tickets WERE paid for. Therefore the club was not giving away tickets free, and was not making a loss - somebody was ready and willing to fork out a lot of money to go and watch Wigan play. And that's all that really matters.

It doesn't matter whose butts were planted on the seats. The privilege was paid for in every case.

And as we're now going round in painful circles, that's my final word on the matter.

If that does not do it Cruncher I do not know what will.

Heinz payed Wigan for the tickets and gave them away, so the people who received these tickets got in the game for free, it doesnt matter who payed for the tickets they still got free tickets. By you logic nothing can be free.

P.S Did i get a free coach or was it not free to me :?:

i have bought 2 tickets for the semi , but my mate cant go, so i have given it to my stepson for free. therefore he has got a "free ticket" to the semi. But the club has been paid for the ticket.

see how it works yet?

if the club has received money for the ticket it cant be free even if the actual person attending hasnt paid a penny

The ticket cost you, not your stepson, so your stepson got a free ticket, which means he payed Nothing and was given a ticket.
