That would be a problem. The only solution would to release George Carmont. Would we want to do that? I don't know. He is a very good player but seems to be picking up injury problems and hasn't been as good this season as he was last season and has had problems one on one in defence.

He doesn't count on the 'Overseas quota' (Which will be five next year) but he counts on the 'Overseas trained' which will be six next year including your overseas quota players.

I'd be happy to let Phelps and Bailey go in the way of progress, however some others may have issue with it.

There's two quotas.

'Overseas Quota' which is the one he gets off and Mark Riddell and Amos Roberts are on.

And the 'Overseas trained' which is what George Carmont, Feka Paleaasina and Pat Richards are on (As well as Mark Riddell and Amos Roberts)

The quota for overseas trained players next season is six (including your overseas quota players).

So at the moment this will be:

Pat Richards
Feka Paleaasina


With George Carmont, Cameron Phelps and Phil Bailey out of contract. All three count on that quota.

So if we want to sign one overseas player then 2 of them are on their way.

Phelps or Carmont will go IMO.

Or how about forget a replacement for Hock. Just use what we have for a season and sign up Ben Ross as a replacement for Andy Coley.

If that is all we can do this season then so be it.

Just to confuse matters we could sign up all three because of the new rules the RFL have made Phil Bailey will count as a federation player because he was signed before the rules were in place in 2007.

This explains it:

The RFL has now announced that clubs will be able to renew or extend the contracts of non-federation players who were signed before the rule was changed in June 2007.

Those players can be retained on top of the non-federation players that clubs are allowed, though the new dispensation will expire if players switch clubs or at the end of any contract extension.

So in theory we could sign up all three players but we would be able to buy another overseas player.

So we have to release either Cameron Phelps or George Carmont if we want to bring in another overseas player. To bring in two we would have to release both.
