I just take exception to the ridiculous figures being banded about. I only know one thing that is factual; King is not the highest earner at Warrington and the highest earner is not on a salary above £200k.
My theory on his release is something along the lines of; at Melbourne he may have been on $200/220k Aus, we go in with an offer of £150k, with the exchage rate at the time providing an offer in the region of $340 Aus, with the shenagans of image rights, it may have taken it closer to $400 Aus. What would you do if the opportunity to almost double your salary for a guaranteed period came along?
Instant headline; King signs $1.6 million contract.
If King isn't the highest earner at Wire and the hughest earner is on less then 200k you did unbelievably well to get him for that price when you did.
I honeslty can't see that being right but you know more then me.

That may well be all well and good, but you also seem to forget that other clubs were also hotly chasing his signature. The above hypothetical situation assumes you were the sole bidder when you were not.
I have my doubts any SL club could sign a current established Australian Rep player for anything less than £200 k prior to add ons, just my opinion.
Unofficially the most boring poster on Cherry and White.

He signed Gleeson remember, which was quite unexpected and bucked a trend of thought that he wouldn't pay transfer fees.
That's the point. IL did bring in Gleeson, but also has missed out on one or two other signings that would have been great for our club.
Considering this, at this stage, do you have faith that he'll come through with the signings?

Exactly, at the time of his arrival, he was a rep player, a good age, and had the potential to rip up SL. Instead we signed Carmont and got a better deal!

It is my understanding that when it came down to the 11th hour, we were the only ones to have put a contract in front of him.
Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

I won't dispute, as I am sure other clubs would have certainly sounded him out. But what I was told, as I stated; the only contract on the table was ours.

King signed for Warrington before IL was in charge at Wigan iirc.
