WANDERER wrote:With all the uncertainty surrounding the Club showing no sign of abating a group of supporters have decided to press on with intentions to form a Supporters Trust / Society.
Guided by Laura Harrison from Supporters Direct, those people who had indicated that they would be prepared to form an 'interim' or 'acting' committee met again this week to map out the early steps and decide on some initial actions.
Below are some brief notes on what has been discussed / agreed so far;
* A number of individuals have accepted key positions on the committee.
* It was agreed to endeavour to re-activate the 'dormant' Doncaster Dragons Supporters Society and re-brand / re-launch.
* As well as consulting with committee members of the previous trust, meetings will be held with members of DISC and the Doncaster Supporters Group to explore the possiblity of all of the groups merging under the Trust banner.
* To forge a partnership with Doncaster RL Club and amateur Clubs within the district.
* To seek the support of local businesses.
* To introduce the Trust to key individuals in Local Health and Education as well as local MP's and to form partnerships.
We realise that there is much to do and it will neither be easy nor any sort of quick-fix but we have decided to do something now rather than just sit back and wait to see what happens. In the event that someone does take over the running of the Club, we would like to be in a position to offer our support.
We have so far had offers of help from Bramley Buffaloes (who are run by a Trust) and from the Trust which supports Widnes Vikings. A meeting with representatives of the latter is in the process of being arranged.
Preliminary discussions about linking with the Lottery run by Steve Miller have also taken place.
Further updates will follow as appropriate.
