One a legend from Oldham that only the very oldest will remember:
Bernard Ganley (the first rugby league goal-kicker to kick more than 200 goals in a season - a record broken by D Watkins) died 26/06/09.

Another - a young player:
Leeds Academy player Andrew Curwell an 18 years old player (ex Saddleworth rangers), who had left Leeds to concentrate on his studies for University, died in a holiday accident the same week.
