Rarely does Nev have a bad game, rarely does he make big mistakes. Ok gives a couple of penalties away here and there but not usually ones that lead to tries.
Maybe Vella and Dobson will be the first names on the team sheet but doesnt it tell you something when Netherton is ALWAYS in the team when not injured? Ahead of people who most other teams would put in front of him? He will never let us down and will always put his hand up to play anywhere at any time, maybe he doesnt give us the greatest go forward but thats not his game and who do you replace him with? If you put Makka in his place you lose the defence and safety, you put Mills in his place you moan about his all round game, there is no coincidence Jason has been with us for so long under so many coaches that know the game better than most of us on this message forum and they keep playing him week in week out.
If I was to be harsh I might say that a player that never tries anything rarely makes mistakes.
I don't disagree that he has been a loyal servant to the club and a very consistent player. However I would put Macca in the front row before Jason any day of the week. Bringing Macca off the bench last Sunday could have won us the game, bringing Jason on won't change the result of a game.
All teams need the steadying influence and hard graft of players like Jason, but a prop forward has to be able to break a tackle or get an offload in and Jason don't do that. It is an obvious area we can look to improve the squad. Maybe he has the time and ability to improve in certain areas and if he can fine, I don't have any particular axe to grind here.
p.s I hope he makes me eat my words and scores ten tries between now and the end of the season
