It's just that the 'overseas trained' allowance for 2010 is 6 and we already have 6 such players signed and contracted. (Vella, Newton, Webster, Dobson, Galea, Fisher).
Fitzhenry, Lovegrove, Gene, Aizue - they could all go and it still wouldn't open up another 'overseas trained' spot.
So if you know of a reason why Rovers can sign another overseas trained player for 2010 then please enlighten us.
I know that overseas players signed before the quota rules were introduced in July 2007 are given dispensation from the rules providing they stayed with the same club to allow clubs to fulfill their contract obiligations and ensure a smoother transition as the academy quotas increase.
So we've got Vella, Fisher, Aizue & Gene all off the quota (even though they can't be replaced by overseas players).
Rovers are trying to get Lovegrove under the "homegrown" rule (cue FC fans
).
That will leave us with:
Webster, Dobson, Newton, Galea.
I expect Gene, Aizue and Fitzhenry to go and I know the club has been putting the feelers out for a few NRL players (though I expect we'll sign only one of them) as well as a high-profile British player.
