To be fair to Johnson, that is one of many theories. Other theories are that his body isn't up to playing sport professionally due to some physiological 'fault'. As a result, he has become depressed about the situation.
Regardless, it will be a shame if he cannot play professional football again. I still stand by my viewpoint when I first watched him. The lad is an excellent player with the potential to be the top midfielder in the country. He has vision, can score goals, does a defensive shift, can dictate the pace of the pace of the game and is an effective link between midfield and attack.
It was obvious that in the last few games he played he was carrying some kind of injury that was affecting his mobility.

We do need those players. However, even now we are much better equipped than last season. Robinho and De Jong will be up-to-speed with the Prem, SWP and Kompany will be fit (they appeared to play the majority of last season with injuries) and Barry will address a number of our weaknesses (e.g. set-piece delivery, unbalanced midfield and lack of experience and tactical awareness in midfield and no cover on the left).
