Fatboys Limb wrote:That's part of my concern. Do fans REALLY want JAW to break the bank to keep Myler?

His presence in the team hasn't increased attendances and hence won't add to our revenue, nor has his presence hasn't lifted us out of the bottom three.

If we were to throw a huge amount of money at him it would either jeopardise the quality of the rest of our squad, or leave us in a more vulnerable position financially.

As our sound financial footing appears to be the only reason we got into SL ahead of Widnes, is it really worth gambling for the sake of one player, who could get badly injured in his next game.

I am just as keen as anyone for Richie to stay with us, and desperately hope he will. However one player does not an SL team make. Also, he displayed very little loyality to his hometown club in joining us so can't imagine why he would show any loyality to us?

His agent will want a big move, Tony Smith will want him playing in the top four if he is to secure his Enlgand place and there are a number of 'bigger' clubs who would be very interested in his services (and when I say 'bigger'' I mean bigger than us AND bigger than Wire?!)

That is a very good and well reasoned post. Myler is a special talent no doubt, but would Wigan want him already having Tomkins, would Saints want him already having Eastmond?

The only team I can see that can find an immediate place for him is Warrington. Myler only has one year left on his contract so do you stick or sell?

I'm not convinced that he is as good as some would have us believe, particularly with regard to his defence,as Wigan have exposed this season.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

I really think that the worst thing that Myler could do at this stage of his career is leave Salford. He is far from the finished player and is doing well at a smaller club like Salford with no pressure and no big name players where he can generally do his own thing. This would not be the case elsewhere and I think that he would not look like the same player. If he was at a club like Wigan he would have been crucified by their fans by now and would have taken the blame for their defeats. Indeed he would probably be stuck in their reserves by now.

I do fear though that Myler may be begining to believe his own hype and that he thinks that he is better than he actually is. He has got increasingly greedy recently and sometimes looks as if he is playing for himself and not the team. He is a good player with a lot of potential but he still has a long way to go.

As a Hull fan I absolutely agree with this. The whole idea of the salary cap is so that teams can develop and keep their own young talent.

I reaily hope Myler make the right call and he (or his representatives) in this case DOESNT chase the money, if he goes to wire it will destroy a promising career and put Salford and Rugby league as a whole back as the francise system is there to allow teams like us to build, if our best players keep being taken how are we surpose to get better.

How would moving to Wire destroy his career? :?

We are not the only club attempting to build, Warrington will be attempting to build a squad capable of challenging for honours as well. If Myler chooses to go there with a promise of higher wages and a good shot at winning stuff in the future then good luck to him. We're not a one man team.

. We're not a one man team?.neither are salford but it seems offiah and now terry oconor seem to think we are. its getting 2 the stage where i am thinking if he wants to go let him go its a bit much when a 19 year old is getting has much press coverage has the rest has his own team.i also think widnes are due a sell on fee because every time mr oconor sees him i think he is going to have an orgasm

Clearly the only attraction of going to Wire is the presence of the England coach - we saw it before with Noble & Coley - I suspect we may be seeing it again.
It's a very short career in the top flight of RL, and ultimately if young Mr Myler is made an offer that Salford can't match he'd have to consider it, I don't think anyone could blame him.
There is ONLY one way to stop this happening and that's to increase the status of Salford City Reds, at the moment with the lack of stadium progress I feel rather pessimistic about that.

Or offer him the money it would take to keep him. Quite simply, we don't have it. Even when the stadium is built, we won't have it.
