It might, just might get a few people to actually take an interest in the people who run the country they live in and the way they run/are going to run it.

I'm not sure I would want compulsory voting; in my opinion it goes against the point of democracy as people are as entitled to not vote as they are entitled to do so.
I am interested in the reasons why people don't vote though and what I think is important is that as a result of this recent election people have been made aware of the pitfalls of not doing so. Hopefully this alone will make those people more interested in who is representing them at parliamentary and local levels.

I'd be even more confident in saying that most people only consider there to be three parties when it comes to elections. If people did a bit of research I'm sure they'd find a party that represented their own personal views. It's pure laziness and apathy to say 'All politicians are bent, therefore I'm bnot going to vote.'
You stole everything I was going to say!
I voted and I'm glad I did, but I'm thoroughly embarassed at the amount of Wiganers who have voted for the BNP.

i didnt vote simply because i have no interest in politics and have better things to do with my time than read through each parties manifesto's
i therefore exercised my right not to vote
whilst i fully respect the sacrifices made by people to enable me to be free enough to be able to vote, if i had voted it would have been a waste of a vote so i didnt
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
