I've also seen Leeds/Bradford/Wigan/Wire fans saying he's one of the best SH in the league. If you can name 3 SH's in this league better then him I'd be very suprised.

Us real fans don't look over our shoulder at our neighbours and do whatever we can to get one over on them. We look at the bigger picture. And this is the reason why Rovers are and will forever be considered a small club. Because their fans and board would rather get one over on Hull FC above anything else.
Quite sad, really!
SPOT ON!

Long is a really good player but to be fair he is getting on abit now( in terms of his position) that’s why saints cant give him 2 years because they know that he has 1 last season in him at his peak.
I think he will play well for you and for most clubs he would be an outstanding player, but lets face it saints are moving forward with new players and releasing older ones
I submit to you that if a man hasn't discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live.

They don't KNOW that but as with Cunningham it'd be much better for Saints to carry him on 1 year deals just in case.
Stacey Jones was around his age when playing for Cats and he is currently playing for the Warriors now, hes a top player and Brett Kimmorely is the best HB in the NRL at this moment in time. Class is permenent.

Thisis a gamble and if Hull are willing to take it then so be it. If it pays off he'll be very good, give direction and experience and can kill teams.
There needs to be a decent succession plan for him that needs to be in place inside a year and it would have to be more then a whim of Thurston coming as it wont happen.
The downside is that he is statistically more likely to be injured and injured for longer than a player 10 years younger. If I was an FC fan my worry would be that your in for another player who plays either strapped up or manages less than 50% of games for the season.
As for 3 better SH's in SL. It al depends on who they play for atthe time. If Myler was at saints with the runners and pack they have he'd be the best, as would dobson, sherwin etc...

Will they be wheeled out to Dads army
No but there'll be Zimmer frames placed out for the warm up instead of tackle pads.

Fair points but with a fit Dykes in 2008 we'd have performed a lot better league wise - and who knows what might have happened at Wembley if he'd played? After all Dykes virtually got us there on one leg. But Long is not in the state that Dykes was so I expect him to play a fair number of games, unless someone does a Newton on him.
Just while we are on the topic of Scrum Half's though. It'll be interesting to see how Sean Long adapts, to work with a less skilful Pack than what he has been used to.
Cos believe it or not, I actually rated Thorman before he went to Hull!
Good players don't become bad players overnight.
A good half back operating with an inept pack is a recipe for disaster in my eyes.

Of the options available to them, Hull have probably made a good choice, IMO. Even at 33, he should improve them. He is proven quality in a position in which they have been lacking it. He'll be a new leader among the players, something I think they need, and he'll postpone for at least another year any thoughts of season-ticket boycotts.
For us, he should make a top panto villain. It is always funnier when a high profile signing disappoints (I haven't the heart to laugh at Thorman, in all honesty) and if he turns out to be brilliant it'll at least be brief and we can go on about how they are going to fall apart without him in 2012.
