He should bite their hands off

Chances of him seeing out that deal?????

He might be out by Christmas with 3 1/2 years worth of cash (or a big pay off) waiting ahead as he slips back on TV.

Lord_Percy wrote:Another thing to count against Shearer is his knowledge of the lower leagues. For various reasons, Newcastle are going to be wanting/needing a whole heap of players for next season, and I think it's fair to say top level players wont be falling over themselves to join a Championship club. Shearer, in both his playing and media career, has basically no experience of life outside the top flight. Not his fault, but how's he expected to unearth the hidden gems that will help Newcastle get back up?

If he's going to stay as a figure head to help gee up the players and the fans, well he's had 8 games this year to do that and he's hardly looked like somebody able to do that so far. What amazed me most on Sunday was the way they went down without a fight. In the last 5 minutes, get your centre back's up front, hoof the ball up there in hope more than expectation, anything. What did they do? Nothing.

He looked completely lost on Sunday, it's okay stood there with a steely expression on hs face and clapping the fans but whenever a new manager comes in there is normally a positive reponse, even if it is just for a couple of games. Shearer could not even get that out of the Newcastle players.

He will need to wheel and deal and whether or not he is capable of that I am not sure. Tactically he looked lost on Sunday, as you say even if it was to throw some centre backs forward and play the long ball game it would have been something.

His heart is in the right place but I don't think it's enough.

Of course the big problem for all the clubs who failed to go up, (or succeeded in going down) is holding on to your better players. Just because you were a decent side this season doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a decent side next season, as half your players may now leave, out of ambition, disappointment or bigger clubs sniffing. Similarly that is why it is not unheard of for relegated teams to slip yet another division the next season.

Have to agree mate, Shearer just isnt ready yet. Newcastle fans wont agree with me but if they had somebody like Allardyce still in charge with that type of experience he would have kept them up IMO, as we just fell apart since December and was lucky to stay up in the end

I cant see them going up if Shearer remains in charge they need a experienced manager

The problem Newcastle have is that if they appoint anyone other than Shearer and they don't get off to a flying start, the fans will be on the new man's back straight away.

Putting Shearer in charge would be entirely the wrong decision made for the wrong reasons, but it would cover the owner's back if it does continue going belly up on the field.

I know one of those clubs :(

Though luckily Roberto has kept everyone there so far but doubt he will manage that trick through to august.

The two Kyles (Naughton and Walker) looked decent for Sheffield.

Couldn't understand a word Roberto said on the ITV highlights last night. Having said that, my Italian leaves a bit to be desired.
