Had a very nice pint of Marston Moor's Brewer's Droop, now brewed by Rudgate, I believe, but has lost none of its quality, at the Green Dragon, Hardraw en route back from Keswick today.
I have incidentally stocked up on bottled ales at Booth's again. will let you know the outcome of the tasting session Tried one so far, Fyne Ales Avalanche, an excellent citrusy IPA type ale. Lovely.
To conclude a rather fine weekend spent with my 8 year old son, I have tasted Ashover's Winter Warmer ( Ashover Tit), an appropriate name if ever there was one, but eminently palatable plus Ashover's Coffin Lane Stout, which I have tasted and admired previously at the Arkwright Arms, Sutton-cum-Duckmanton.
I also made a rare visit to sample the Sam Smith's Old Brewery Bitter at the Royal Oak, Ulley and am pleased to say it has retained its quality with the change of patron. Rounding the BH weekend off nicely with a couple of bottles of Marston's Oyster Stout obtained cheaply and cheerfully from Booth's in Keswick at £1 a bottle.
Dark Horse Shoulder of Mutton Ale at the Shoulder of Mutton, Kirk Smeaton this evening and a new one on me in the shape of Old Mill Old Curiosity 4.5% at the Bay Horse, Great Heck.
The latter being a lovely dark ruby coloured heavily malted ale.
Bit of a tour today from lunchtime to early evening;
Visited the Beehive at Harthill at lunchtime - pint of TT's Landlord.
Later, one of my favourite pubs in Sheffield, the Kelham Island Tavern where it was a new one on me Wentworth Nutty Stack a deep ruby malt ale with caramel and toffee flavours 4.4%.
Next, a bite to eat at the Rawson Spring in Hillsborough accompanied by a glass of Wentworth Small Copper a light brown / copper beer with roasted malt flavours 4.1%.
Finally, back nearer home a pint of Jennings Honey Bole at the Sun Inn. Wasn't confident of enjoying this one but it surprised me. Described as straw-coloured, it was a nice crisp refreshing drink with a hint of honey which developed as you progressed through the pint 4.5%.
With all this news about the Dons, I forgot to mention Tom Wood's Father's Pride which I sampled in the Beverley Court Inn on Tuesday.
Dark brown bitter, malty with toffee and caramel flavours 4.5%.
