Admittedly my red and white tinted glasses were firmly in place, but nonetheless, the player never had the ball in hand so it's difficult to be certain he would have scored.

If he had ball in hand and it was going to be given as a penalty try it would have been a 2 kick penalty try as opposed to the 1 kick under the sticks this thread is discussing.

When Welham made his long break who was it that saved a try by taking Fox out? I'm guessing this was Dixon, so I think Fox's challenge may have had an element of "revenge" about it.

I think if the ref had seen it properly it could have been but as he was going off what the linesman said a penalty is all that could be given.

I still cant see how a team can be given a penalty try when the ball was still boucing around in the dead ball area.
For me for it to be a penalty try there needed to be far less variables than there was.
Whats next?, A penalty try when a player gets taken out on his own line with an open field in front of him?
