They really are making themselves look a prat over this - if they don't want to compete under the new rules, walk away. Don't sue the people who run the competition just because it's no longer being run to your tastes.

They took a gamble on running light in the first stint to get the super softs out of the way, which meant he lost whatever track position he managed to gain with the early pit stop.
After that he was doomed to spending most of the race staring at someone else's gearbox.
