Has it been a success for the clubs outside SL

We are half way through our 3 rd year of thursday night telvision now but has it helped the competition or the clubs in it from both financial point of view and generally helping us all raise interest in our clubs ?

No not really, they say it helps raise the profile of the clubs but we havent seen any increased revenue or sponsorship. Most tickets are giveaways for Thursday night games and it frustrates some of the Hardcore as they are unable to attend due to various commitments. Sure we have a main sponsor for the competition and it's good exposure for them but with clubs already going into Admin etc i fail to see how it has helped other than to advertise the cooperative brand.

no, the clubs should be entitled to more money from sky and the rfl for the product on offer.

How do you know? Surely only club officials will know that?

Starbug - you've posted these questions everywhere but the fans can only answer half of them and that's with guesswork. Isn't this a question for club officials?

What i can say, on a personal level is - i hate the Thursday kick off's when Halifax are on but i think it's great when other teams are on because i love watching the game.

Tbh i know i will ruffle a few feathers saying this but i think the games in this league are very poor and as a spectacle i dont really enjoy watching them. I know people refer to Super League as 'Robotic' but as a viewer it is far more entertaining than a championship or championship 2 match. Of course i will watch the games when Widnes are involved because they are my club but generally i find games pretty boring on the whole.


They can dress it up all they want in terms of a new chamionship logo and they now show the matches on sky but the leagues below SL are dying. Super League is the holy grail in terms of the pinical of the sport and i just hope we get in SL next time the franchises come around or else i fear for our clubs future and the leagues below SL in general.

Yes you are right as regards the club officials knowing if they have secured better deals because of the TV coverage , so maybe some of us will ask , to my knowledge at Leigh we havent , whats the situation at Fax ?

I guess there is also an element that is unquantifiable. Say if Widnes appear on TV eight times this year and end up winning the GF. A potential sponsor may be pleased with that kind of success and exposure and may decide to sponsor in 2010.

As for the pure financial gain/loss - i wouldn't think there's a significant impact either way. Also, IIRC last year Halifax officials openly complained at the lack of TV exposure so there must be something positive in it.

That would just be down to wanting to be seen as equal to other clubs in importance , I seem to remember a lot of your fans being quite happy to stick to sunday matches

I would say that Leigh probably lost out on at least £ 10,000 in revenue when we played Widnes the other week because of the thursday game , that is a lot of money for any club at this level at the moment

If we were playing well and that Leigh game had fell on a Sunday we would have took over a 1,000. Just over 2,000 for a Leigh V Widnes game is pathetic but like you say both teams shocking form added to a Thursday night makes it a none event attendance wise.
