I'd guess that the Man United fans who want Newcastle to go down want them to go down because Newcastle lose, not because Hull have beaten them.
It'd just be better for Man United if they went into the CL final on the back of a victory, even if the majority of the players are reserve team players.
I also think there's a bad karma aspect to United over the final. They won't want to rejoice in the relegation of Newcastle too much when they've got the final to play. I know I couldn't enjoy Arsenal being knocked out of the CL very much because we were playing Barca the next day.
