This is Leigh's dream 1-7 line up at the moment
1 Turley (7 votes) Hogan (6 votes)
2 Drummond (25 votes)
3 Donlan (13 votes)
4 Lewis/Bilsbury (8 votes each)
5 Walsh (13 votes)
6 Woods (26 votes)
7 Murphy (19 votes)
Those numbers may not be exact because I've just done a quick count - but I think our dream team is looking pretty good up to now.
Thanks everyone but keep 'em coming, the forwards are bit harder to count but I'll get round to it soon.
BTW I've obviously treated Vikingman's contribution with the contempt it deserves!

I've got Clarke with 9 votes, Tommy Martyn with 7 votes, Mick Martyn with 8 votes and 6 votes go to an unnamed Martyn, which could be a vote for either Tommy or Mick - I don't know which.
Other than that the vote is:
8 Wilkinson (9 votes)
9 Ashcroft (10 votes)
10 Street (10 votes)
11 ?
12 ?
13 Bristow (6 votes)
I think the choices for the subs should be chosen as such:
Each person chosen in their position will keep their votes and if they are voted a place on the subs bench, they will get a point added on - the four players with the highest overall votes gets a place - does everyone agree that this is a fair way to choose?
PS can anyone help me solve the riddle of the Martyns?
Swap my 12. Westhead and 13. Tommy Martyn Snr around if it helps.
Westhead started a lot of games with 13 on his back but for me was a quality, strong running and fiersome defender of a 2nd row and TM Snr started most games with 11/12 on his back but had greater ball playing skills than Johnny so quite easily could have been a loose in this day and age. I wanted them both in and felt that they were better suited in the positions I chose.I think Wembley 71 has done something similar.
Unless of course you have included TM Snrs 13,s as a vote for 11 and 12

There's a case to say you have to look at the records... I never saw Bill Kindon play, but for donkeys he was the club's record try scorer. I didn't see Legard, either, but he surely must be the best fullback we've had... look at his international record, and his price tag! Pawsey, Egan, Mick Martyn, Murphy, Drummond... again, on their stats records, they have to be in, even though many on the board won't have seen any of them, and few if any on the board will have seen all of them.

It is difficult to comment on Players you've not seen however, my father watched Leigh from 1923 until 2002! He said John Woods was the best player Leigh ever had and that Trevor Allen was sensational! don't recall him revering anyone else. I've never seen a Stand Off,either Aussie or GB NZ etc.. that I would have prefered to John Woods and, I've never seen a Scrum half to compare to Murph either! I can't think any team could have had a better halfback pairing to those two, I'd loved to have seen them together at their best!
Did my 'namesake' never get a mention from your old fella?? From what I have heard he was a bit of a legend in the old Mather Lane days!! (tales of wrestling exhibitions as pre-match entertainment!!)

That team looks good to me.
Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence. In other words, it is war minus the shooting. George Orwell
