Reduce NRL to 15 rounds - Gorden Tallis
FORMER Test captain Gorden Tallis has called for an overhaul of rugby league scheduling, with representative matches to be played as stand-alone fixtures and the NRL season reduced to a 15-round competition.
Tallis agreed with the assertions of Cowboys stars Johnathan Thurston and Luke O'Donnell that the status of Test matches was being denigrated by players being forced to back up for their clubs on the same weekend.
Writing in his exclusive column for our Brisbane sister paper The Courier-Mail, Tallis has put forward a blueprint he believes the NRL should take forward when broadcast rights are next negotiated in 2012.
Among his ideas are a reduction in premiership matches with clubs playing each other once before the finals; a new pre-season competition to be played predominantly in regional centres; and a revamped representative schedule with stand-alone Test matches and State of Origins.
"While players backing up in rugby league is a thing of legend it doesn't necessarily make it right," Tallis wrote.

In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

Its a good idea but clubs will want more money from the gates and the tv want as longer season as possible to sell more advertising.
I would like something similar to happen to Superleague. 20 round season maybe?
It would only be viable if they could sell more ads for each game shown, by let's see........ TV timeouts when the ball goes dead maybe? That might work.
