Are now being ruined for me by the constant MOOOOOOOOVE from the ref after every single tackle.

Is there really any need to hear the ref all match?

I ended up watching yesterday with the sound off :?

Better listening to the ref talking to the players than to the commentary team talking tosh.

I like the fact that we can listen to the ref.

Just try and block it out of your mind and watch the rugby, it's pretty easy to do.

It confuses my partly deaf 89 year old Grandad who complains about the constant "booing" after every tackle. He didn't understand it was the ref shouting "move".

What does it mean when the ref shouts DOMINANT or something similar during a tackle? I understand SURRENDER but have never heard this before

It's the same thing, ie a defender is allowed a little more time to hold down.

Surrender is where a player has gone down easily to get a quick play the ball (Morley does it a lot at Warrington). Dominant is where a defender makes a big hit and puts a player on their ass for example.

Both allow the defender a little more freedom.

I was talking to someone about that a few weeks back, dominant is straight forward however i was never sure what the indication was with surrender, as you say it appears to be the same, allowing the defence to hold down a bit longer.

i was thinking though, they both reward defence, should there not be an equivalent call for when an attacker scatters defenders and leaves them behind but they're still hanging onto an ankle at the ptb (if you know what i mean) or would that be redundant and just result in a penalty.
