13 phil costelllo

15 paul coleman coey

theseare all local lads thats slipped through the net since the early eighties anyone of these players could have walked into the salford team , but unfortunatly because they werent wiganers or aussies they were not given a chance

I'm guessing the club may regret not signing Denis Betts and Adrian Morley a touch more than the guys above.

The title of the thread is "Best Salford team ever" - what we are getting is people's opinions about the best composite Salford team from players they have seen. Fair enough, it is difficult comparing players from different eras even when you have seen them play, but the title of the thread is being ignored. Anyway, I shouldn't criticise - I have been watching Salford for over 40 years, and I don't feel competent to pick a team from those players I have seen, never mind an all-time best.

That wasn't the question, if it had been Best Salford team of players you have seen, understandable. But they are clearly two of Salford's all time best.

you didnt see some of these play , vic mcdonagh was a world class centre one of the hardest players i have ever seen play the game , phil edge was probabaly as quick as anyone i have seen since keith fielding , simon williams was a winger that would run through brick walls never knew when he was beaten , mick clarke was similar to rob burrow , bob chadwiock best stand off since steve nash , ask anyone on the local amatuer scene, dave ferrar sheer quality ,kempy class ,everyone of the above mentoined players have given me years of enjoyment and i wish some of the above were still playing today

Fair enough.

My argument is though how can you say this player's better then that player when you've never seen them play?

Yes, the stats and stories are there for all to see but IMHO you can only pick players that you've seen with your own eyes and know are truly great.
