True, when ever he goes up agaisnt the very best he never seems as good. Maybe because the people he goes up against are that bloody good though

The only criticisms of Ricky Hatton IMO is that he let his loyalty to Billy Graham hold him back as a fighter, Now Graham did a good job to get him to that level but he was never able to elevate Hatton to the highest level, Also the fact Hatton was too much of a "lad" the famous drinking and eating binges probably took it's toll on his body and the Elite fighters wouldn't lose there conditioning as drasitic as Hatton did throughout his career...

He's just not quite in the very top bracket. Brute strength and aggression will only get you so far.

Mayweather Snr is quite clearly mad at Hatton after the first round. On the HBO version there is no commentary during the break. He says "Move your head. Keep the hands up. You should've listened to me from day one" It appears to me Mayweather did try teach him to box. Just look at him in the 24/7 shows - he looked fantastic IMO. He lost his composure big time. But this fall out did a lot of damage too.

I agree, I believe Hatton could have been way better than what he is had he decided to get another trainer but he was too loyal.

on 24/7 he looked fantastic, training really well and looked as if he would go into the fight with a good solid game plan but he went back to the brawl Hatton, which sadly did not work

Just as Roach predicted. Got to hand it to him. He called it pretty well. Who else really expected it end so fast? I saw one clip of him saying he told Manny he'd be disappointed with him if it went past 3 rounds.

Before fight I had realy bad feeling and said I reckon Manny could win in first 2 rounds... But I thought to myself "don't be so fooking stupid"

I did put money on Hatton though

Roach is good at what he does, he gets to know the fighter who Manny is up agaisnt well and picks out there weakneses.

Was he any good as a boxer himself?

Roach spent most of his career as a Lightweight journeyman fighter, and was on the losing end of most of his high profile bouts. He dropped fights to former super lightweight champ Bobby Chacon and former lightweight champs Greg Haugen and Hector Camacho Sr.. Roach relied on a durable fighting style, and tried to outlast opponents in the ring. He was willing to take a shot to give a shot and ultimately this took its toll. Roach only went 13-12 in the last part of his career after starting 26-1. His last win was against Filipino fighter Arnel Arrozal.

Absolutely devastated!

Followed Ricky for years now both here and abroad and hard to take is this.

Time to call it a day for me now though, he's conquered all before him and given his fans some glorious nights, but in chasing his ultimate dream of being recognised as the lb for lb king has fallen short against two great champions.

Don't see anywhere to go now other than promoting.

What would you think to 1 last fight in England? So he could (hopefuly) go out on a win.

Shame we could not win one of the fights to become the best.
