To raise the quality of the national team, it needs the coach to constantly look beyond the former "big four" and actually select players who are classy and in-form. In previous seasons it has been obvious that players plaing for Saints, Wigan, Leeds and Bradford have been picked when there have been others who could easily have filled their places who play for unglamorous sides.
The last "Origin game" was a case in point. Yorkshire stuffed Lancashire and the Lancashire side contained the majority of the then GB squad. It was obvious that there were some good players in that Yorkshire team who should have come into contention for a GB place that season. In fact only 3 made the train-on squad. However, the coach (Was it Waite or Noble?) decided to stick with the majority of tried tested and failed players and as the old saying goes "Keep doing what you've always done and you'll keep getting what you've always got!"
