To be honest though, thats not gonna happen is it. I mean from Hartley's position he'd be getting paid twice for the same games i.e. already had the money from Widnes and then getting paid for whatever games he plays for Leigh. Also from Widnes' point of view, whatever we pay him off goes against the salary cap (I pressume) so getting shut wouldn't really benefit us from that point of view either. If thats the only offer on the table, may as well just keep him and wait + see if his injury clears up.
You can get rid of players and not count on the cap. I'm sure everyone remembers how we got rid of Peachey and then signed Jordan James, Ollie Wilkes and Dennis Moran. As others have said finding another club to take Hartley's contract over is the hard part. Maybe we can do deals like what Leeds Utd did a few years ago. When they were relegated but had players on long term deals and massive wages, they sold players on, but still agreed to pay x amount of the wages. Although Leeds wages went down they were still paying for players they had sold years earlier. Pressumably Hartley is on a one year deal, so if we say to Leigh or whoever, we'll go halves on the wages untill the end of the year, Widnes lighten the load a little and the other club gets a player for half wages - everyone's a winner.
