Ref quite frankly was awful and in my opinion came out in favour of Hull far too often. Lost count of how many times I shouted obstruction and it went unpunished (but then it always does unless the ball ends up over the line and they can check it on the screen). Sorry but thought Hull laid up offside for most of the game after our great start and don't recall them being pulled for it once. Cashmere lying on the floor and Hull playing the ball onto him was interference but 5 minutes later the other way it was a salford knock on. He gave off side when the ball ballooned off a salford player on our line from a kick and Parker collected it. Firsly the Salford player didn't play the ball (it played him) and secondly I still don't think it was off side. Time after time the referee gifted Hull repeat sets in our half and time after time took the pressure off them on their own line. The choice of shirt in the first half was a poor one and that linesman must have something against Wilshere because he was determined not to give any of his kicks. On this last note when a game is on sky the referees go to the screen at the drop of a hat for tries that were clearly tries (and I include Hulls first one in that today) when they are stood on top of the action and shoud be able to see. So why when there is a disagreement between linesmen on a goal kick can they not look at the screen for this. This may sound like sour grapes on my part but this is my take on what happened today. far too often whether salford play well or not (or even when watching a game we are not involved in) I find myself talking about refereeing errors. This is their full time job and quite frankly they all should be doing it better than they are doing.

For the record I actually thought we played some good rugby today. There were some mistakes and we could have made better decisions at times but I thought we played some exciting stuff. I thought Mylers kicking game was better at times (which is the one area I thought could use some improvement). We all know we are not the finished article but I personally think we are on the right track and for the number of repeat sets they got i thought our defense held out pretty well.

SaintsFan wrote:I've just watched the match, recorded it earlier. Although you didn't win - and you were unfortunate not to - I've got to say that from when I last saw you play, which was when you came to Saints, you have improved beyond recognition even though at the time you played us you were showing real promise in attack. I know Wilshere was off form (damn shame given his usual kicking ability and your need for the goal kicks tonight) but if one or two of your players could just keep a tighter hold on the ball then there is no reason why you can't win a goodly number more games this season. You are definitely on the up as a team, looking better in defence, more cohesive, more determined (I've never seen a team so intent on contesting the scrum!), more creative. I know it's a loss for you but I hope you guys don't get dispondent again as you are playing much better now, you're finding your feet, and I enjoyed watching you play tonight..

Not often that I agree with a Saints fan but I'm with you there. Some of our own fans seem to turn up just to moan at their own team sometimes and not many will give credit where it is due. We are unrecognisable from the team that were averaging score lines of 48 - 12 a few weeks ago.

No complaints as such about tonights result, we made to many simple errors, Hull were there for the taking but we wer`nt up to the task.
On the subject of the disputed goal kicks I was convinced they had both gone over ( but then I would)I think Chrismum could be on to something there.
Despite the result I enjoyed the game ,Salford have improved and there was some pleasing aspects of the game, in particuler the two long range tries we scored.

After watching the kicks on Sky, I thought that the first one went over but the second one missed - we were unlucky that we had such indecision from the touch judges on two occasions.

From my usual vantage point, the penalty that would have made it 16-16 definately went over just sneaking the other side of the upright even though the ball was higher than the post itself. I think the fact that the ball was quite high when it went over may be the reason why one of the touch judges didn't give it. That's the first time in over 30 years watching the game that I've seen the touch judges disagree and it happened twice in one game, how bizarre!

sorry have to disagree, the penalty attempt didn't go over, it drifted inches wide of the upright, we had the perfect view standing at the top of the terrace behind the opposite end

btw, at least you didn't lose to a forward pass now

not good enough simple as. no complaints about ref some call go ur way others dont fact.
the game should be simple keep hold of the ball for more than two tackles maybe get to the 5th and kick? support player with ball and tackle. our main problem is dropping the ball! and cannot defend outwide!

Keep your heads up Salford. Its your first season back into SL Even tho, your sat in 13th, your only 2 points behind Wigan in 9th place.
As a nuetral watching the game tonight, I though you gave Hull a good run for their money. Yeah maybe the game could have been won, you can't fault the effort of your boys.
IMO the referre was pritty bad, he made same bad decisions and seemed not to be getting Hull back the full 10, and looked to be offside on a number of ocations.
If you keep up the effort your team will be there or there abouts for top 8, maybe not this season but 2nd and 3rd you will.
This season wasnt really about top 8, more about finding your feet and building from there.
You have a 18 yr old SH with the world at his feet, keep it up, ull get there.

now you come to mention it, the final ball to whiting was forward.

although pleased about the second half defensive display to keep any team tryless in a half takes some doing.

Looked from the SKY shots that the ball was outside but curling in towards the post. I would imagine it was hard to see at which point the ball actually passed the posts if you were some way behind it. Looked the right call to me
