They still had Toure and Sagna, half of their first choice. The likes of Song offered no protection at all. In fact, on reflection I feel a bit sorry for them, they were firefighting as a back four.
Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

If Wenger uses that wonderful brain of his and signs a defender in the Hangeland mould, and brings Flamini back from Milan then they will definitely be a force.

To be fair Song was pretty good tonight and has looked like a quality dm recently. It was the back 4 where they struggled.

The past few games we've had to come out and attack, as we've pretty much needed wins every game. No offence to Carra, but he's a much better defender when defending deep in his own box, when we're chasing games and things are open, he struggles and it doesn't help when we have full backs who like to bomb forward, but don't really have the athleticism to get back quick enough.
Basically, we've chased games more, left more space for sides to attack and not been quick enough to react. Where was Skrtel tonight?
What would be hilarious is after the season long duel between united and liverpool, chelsea snuck in and clinched a treble from under their noses, league, fa cup and cl.

I don't mind Song but I just don't think he's top quality, he's good but Flamini was immense and was an absolute engine in midfield. Song, as good as he is, isn't that good.

I think it's quite clear that having no Flamini, Hleb or Rosicky has affected Cesc's game. I'm not saying they were better than him, but they played to his strength's more and they were all experienced players. I think Cesc's struggled with the added responsibility this year.
