DANNY LOCKWOOD - LEAGUE WEEKLY (18-5-09)
I'M SURE THERE IS NO CORRELATION BETWEEN THE FACT THAT THE FRONT RUNNERS FOR THE 2009 MEDIA WHINGING AWARD ARE FROM GATESHEAD AND HULL FC, FORMERLY THE B*ST*RD-TWINS OF ONE OF RUGBY LEAGUE'S LOUSIER IDEAS.

I was referring to the LER Cup final, which had been held at Carcassonne for the past 7 years. This year was a break with the trend, which is why I was confused, forgetting that it had been moved to Albi.
The regular championship competition final was held in Toulouse from 1951 until 1993. After that it was held at a variety of places, including six times at Narbonne, twice in Paris, only twice at Toulouse city, and once in suburban Colomiers. Last year it was held at Beziers.

Probably sod all. Like Salford and Celtic did. If you have a good stadium, good financial backing and a solid support and local player base you have no chance in the new fangled SL franchise system unfortunately.

If what you say is true, then Toulouse have no chance.
TO and Le Cats are doing very well but the sad truth is the Domestic league in France is in a very very poor state. What can be done to improve this when the 2 best teams don't want to even play in it?

If you saw the Cup final on Sunday you would not think the LER is in a very, very poor state.
There was a lot of good talent on show there.
A poor state maybe.
But once Toulouse gets into Super League the number of clubs playing the game should rise in the greater Toulouse metropolitan area, as happened in French Catalonia after Les Catalans joined SL. At that point TO will be able to run a strong LER side as its feeder, and LER clubs Albi and Villeneuve should also benefit.

Exactly, the Elite League isnt suited to being a top RL comp. RL works in NZ at that level with a top club in the NRL and there's no reason it cant work in France with a healthy semi-pro comp and 1 or 2+ SL teams. UK fans are so short sighted when it comes to deviating from the norm of football codes in this country.
