Lock this thread. It's going nowhere fast.

In line with this thread I take great exception to this remark!

Disco - Expansion of the game is a good thing, undoubtedly, but in the main what people simply want to assert is that you don't kill the roots to spread the tree.

The Curtism - The battles are fought on the field and the friends are made in the bar. There's no hatred among real men.

Time for RW to follow the lead of Saints by issuing a statement as to what stage the club are at regarding the new stadium.

To be fair

If RW says nowt he gets criticised for saying nowt

When he said that we'd got funding for a 13000 seater and was holding out for funding for a 15000 seater he was accused of being economical with the truth.

It's still unclear whether we're going for a stadium to incorporate council facilities. If this is still going through debate at council he can say nothing without repeating what's been said before.

If he issues a statement saying that nothing has changed, there'll be a howl of protest about no progress being made.

Having been "the bloke in charge" when there's been a crisis, I know from experience that no matter what you say you can't win. You can be totally open and honest, but there are people who make up their mind that you're a liar, part of a cover-up or a conspiracy, and nothing that you can do will change their mind.

It's very hard to prove that things are going to plan. Someone is ALWAYS going to suspect that you know something they don't, and then tell it to all and sundry. The verifiable evidence is that we've got a site, we've got outline permission, the site is being prepared for building of some kind, there's a board up from the developers saying it's for a new stadium for the Tigers, and Waystone's website shows an artist's impression of what it will look like. We've also made a deal with developers to sell the Jungle.

It may seem naive (so is the name of a top brand of bottled water, backwards) but would Waystone have done the artists impressions and put the board up if there was a good chance that the whole thing was going to turn into some sort of embarrassing white elephant?

No matter what RW says, some will believe him and some won't. Then the same old debate kicks off again. We'll only find out for sure when the first bits are erected, or when the diggers leave never to return.

It was only a matter of time that Wakey would make an annoucement. However, if I was a Wakey fan I would be seriously questionning the location. There is nothing around that area and would be a serious bottle neck for traffic (unless there will be additional links added of course). It's no where near the old stadium and certainly no local pubs for a pre-match drink. Fantastic for away fans as you can spit to the M62 and away you go. Least ours has something around it in regards to rail links and entertainment both pre and post match.

By all accounts the stadium is stage one of a massive development.
