can't help but think there is a backward glance at the end of last season with the Giggs nomination - some of the stuff he has done this year has been superb, but i think

Beating Sit Bobby Charltons appearance record
Scoring the final goal at wigan last year
Scorting Uniteds last pen in the CL final
a 10th premier league title
continuing his record of having scored in every PL season
some of the form he has shown in a newish position for him

may have been factors in the regard in which his peers appear to hold him.

Gerrard may take it like Ginola did in 99 when united dominated the nominations too...

..lets hope the season pans out the same way.

Might have a dabble on Liverpool at 12/1 to qualify tonight. No lose situation then. Can sit back and enjoy liverpool going out but if they win I get some cash.

It's not about that. It's about who has had a good SEASON. Ryan Giggs has had numerous season's playing more regularly and far better than he has this season and not won it. I think his fellow professionals have voted for him more out of sentiment because he has never won it

Maybe. Again though, should we not trust their judgment if he does get the sentimental vote?

I don't think he has been player of the year by the way. I'd say Vidic although it would be helpful if someone could wipe his Torres induced nightmare from his mind for the last few weeks of the season as its affecting his form.

As an aside, I think the votes for this come in way too early. If a Gerrard inspired Liverpool win the league (at which point, I'm leaving the country) he'd be in with a great shout. However aren't the votes already collated around March time?

Should/will Benitez risk Gerrard?

Should/will Ferguson risk Ferdinand?

I know, that's why I wrote 'because he's never won it' in my last post

Either way, he has NOT been the best player this season and that is what the award is for! Maybe they should create yet another award for him if his peers think he deserves one.

Agreed. I've always thought that.

Gerrard - yes. They have literally no chance without him.

Ferdinand - yes. They have a very small chance without him.

But at what potential cost? Is it worth it? I'm not so sure.
