I know a bloke who is a sort of accountant whizz kid who has an interest with Wigan RL, after so many years you can access companies or clubs financial records and he did this and we were paying out so much for win bonus'.

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

In the late 80s Wigan were budgeting on winning at Wembley ever year, when that stopped we were always up shite creek without a paddle. Any book keeper with an AAT qualification would tell you what would happen, but we still did it. That is the main reason we got into the mess we did. While the stand was a contributing factor it was built on the ego of board members who stupidly thought we'd never stop winning.

Under the CC win bonuses are not workable.

That's the end of the matter.

I stand by my comments.

I have to wonder about this, there's a photo in the JJB of a winning check for the league for £20k, how much was the winning purse for the CC at this time and how would not winning actually cost verses the cost of building a stand?

They are easily workable. Very very easily.

Problem is some players would be on those types of contracts while other players would have legacy contracts not on the same basis until they were up for renewal.

But that would be the case regardless of the "CC".

Prize money is a drop in the ocean compared to the revenue generated by the commercial activities from getting to the cup final and cut of the Wembley gate receipts that finalists got in the past.

Big teams such as ourselves struggle to keep within the CC without win bonuses.

How on earth are we supposed to attract talent whilst reserving a slice of the CC for win bonuses?

It's one of the major shortcomings of the CC - once a player signs a contract, he can essentially sit on his ar$e for 3 years or so.

There is very little a club can do to rectify this situation and remain competitive.

Still at least Huddersfield are second eh?

win bonuses are a cracking idea, but unworkable.

what player would sign a contract today where winning depended on him getting paid?

we could always bring in a club rule that any player deemed to not be pulling his weight on the field could be fined up to a weeks wages????

players might sign then if they knew their pay was in thier own hands and out of the hands of sub standard team mates
and if we fine em enough we might have enough to sign a decent prop
