I've started a new thread on this, because Micky Higham's views on Wigan signing Gleeson as expressed in last night's (Saturday's) WEP were very interesting.

Personally, I'm getting tired of reading the views of Warrington fans who are now ripping into Gleeson following his signing for us - Micky Higham's views (under the sub-heading of 'Higham Sad To See Gleeson Go') are as follows:

Micky Higham admits he is 'shocked' Warrington have allowed star man Martin Gleeson to join his old club Wigan.

Higham told the WEP "I was shocked when I heard that Warrington had let Martin go because he is one of the best centres in England.

It is disappointing because I'd have thought Warrington would have wanted to keep their best players, and Martin is a very fine player.

He has a proven record, playing at the highest level for his country.

He is not only a superb try scorer, but his offload is excellent, and his all round game is strong and productive.

I think that it is a very good signing for Warriors and Warrington's loss will be Wigan's gain".

Higham and Gleeson were team mates at St Helens and have both starred for England.

"I grew up with Martin Gleeson at Saints and I know what a fantastic player he is" added Higham.

"Wigan though, have given Martin a good deal and that will give him extra security, so it was one that he probably couldn't have turned down.

Whatever the reason, he will give Wigan's play a different dimension - because he is such a dangerous player".

This hasn't appeared on the Wigan Today website yet, but interesting comments from a current Warrington player on our signing of Gleese.

Why does Higham still write for the WEP?

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

Well they offered Riddell a column, but he wanted paying in food and there was no way the WEP could afford it ;)

Riddell's obviously done his homework; Column in the WEP, job gone within 2 years.

Highams comments in the WEP are very honest and I would be slightly worried if I were a Dire supporter right now

He doesn't write for the WEP any more - he was being interviewed by a reporter and gave these quotes on Gleeson signing for us from a Warrington player's perspective.

This brings back memories of Dave Whelan on Ian Millward "St.Helens loss is Wigans gain"

I hope (and think) this signing turns out well for you

Don't think Higham will be on his own with his opinion of Gleeson, I'm sure most of the Wire squad feel the same about loosing one of their best players.
In fact, it probably showed in their performance against Salford.

Lets hope he's right that Wires loss is Wigans gain. Only time will tell.

Quote from Graham Lowe - "I'm 49, I've had a brain haemorrhage and a tripple bypass and I could still go out and play a reasonable game of rugby union ......... but I wouldn't last 30 seconds in rugby league!"
