You lot will come good eventually.....surely
I think it sums up a lot of Widnes fans feelings at the moment. The mood is anger and frustration for now, but if it carries on much longer, the frustration will probably turn to resignation. I don't think either the Doncaster or Batley games will improve people's mood very much, the team need to proove they can do it against a decent team before they get the fans back on their side.
It weird really, people have commented on how well Flynn, Gannon, Ostick, Duffy, Gaskell, Kohe Love, Kavanagh (at times) have played this season, yet collectively we've looked a pretty awful side all season. Wherever you look in the team you could argue there is a problem - Props = too light, 2nd row = Fletch out, Doran playing terrible, loose = we don't have one fit at the club, halves = showing absolutely nothing, Hooker = inconsistant at best, centres = looking very weak with Varkulis poor and TKL out, Fullback = Yates has had a few shockers and Wilbore not exactly setting the world alight. I think we are ok on the wing though.
I suppose it could be worse, in 2006 we conceed around 50 points against Leigh twice early season and we ended up contesting the GF. I know Leigh aren't the side they were back then, but remember we also lost to Rochdale that season, struggled to beat Hunslet Warriors and were drawing 0-0 with Swinton at half time in one game. I mean its not as if the defence is that bad. If Flynn hadn't have got into touch near the end we wouldn't have lost the game and we would have only conceeded 1 try - not exactly a disaster. The attack, discipline and handling however, well to say it needs works is an gross understatement. I can't believe Cullen said discipline is the key to winning games then we gave 6 back to back pens away in the 1st half. Strangely, the discipline improved in the 2nd half, but then the handling went out of the window. I don't know how many tackles each side did, but I would imagine in the end, we just ran out of steam due to the amount of defending we had done in the game.
