Personally I think this is an excellent strategy.

I have it on pretty good authority that the days are over when loan moves were a preliminary to selling off youngsters. The club are eager for the elite youngsters to gain regular first team experience. And, as Barrrow showed, they and their rivals can not be written off as an inferior breed. Mossop will get good hard rugby playing up there.

It's odd that Goulding hasn't taken his opportunity, especially as we've just signed another centre in Gleeson. But if it signifies that he wants to fight for his place, then maybe that's a good sign too.

A great move for the lad and the club. He will get some much needed first team experience at Barrow and will be playing in a good side.

I'd also like to see Goulding, Flanagan, Farrell etc go out on loan to further thier careers with a view to us bringing them back into the first team picture.

I must admit my first thoughts when seeing this was that it was a mistake.

However pretty quickly I have come to the conclusion that it is a great deal for both clubs. Mossop is too good for reserve grade rugby but maybe not quite ready for first team rugby, although he is not too far imo.

Going to Barrow gives him something playing reserve team grade cant do in playing first team rugby every week, which can only benefit us next season for example.

Going off the evidence of the cup game I can't think of a better club for him to go to learn from.

I agree great strategy by the club and the level of rugby played by barrow on sunday was far above what the reserves ever get to play at ,and it should be a great deal more competitive week in week out as well .

While i agree it is a fantastic step the logistics would worry me a little, regards his time at Wigan. My understanding is that when a player goes on loan to a part time team they train with the club on a part time basis ie when going through team prep but spend the rest of the time with the parent club, my only concern would be his contact time with Wigan could be reduced due to the need to travell. I am sure this will have been sorted though and another positive step for Wigan, I am a little suprised he could not have remained in SL to be honest, but i am sure it will still do him the world of good and help bridge the gap between reserves and SL.

The other week against hudds reserves he was amazing at prop, I have no doubts he will be good enough as a first team prop in afew years.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

I actually hope goulding doesn't end up going to salford, it could hinder andy thornleys development on loan there if he doesn't get game time.

Could loan him to wire tho, recently heard they're a centre down

thanks for that Lee; hope it goes well at Barrow for you mate

Conroy - Being a Latics fan i'm already immune to watching sh*te.

Sally Cinnamon - Treat the Saints forum as you would if you met a girl from St Helens. Best policy would be to avoid altogether but if you absolutely can't resist temptation then take every possible precaution.
