Really disappointing last night. Fair play to Chelsea, they did a number on us last. The best I've seen them play by far all season and I don't think it's a coincidence that Essien is back playing. A much better team than we beat home and away in the league.
Essien shackled Gerrard out of the game, and even at half time they could, or probably should have gone in with a 1 or 2 goal advantage as Drogba missed 2 chances you'd expect him to score. Saying that, I don't think Liverpool played badly in the first half, and contrary to popular opinion beforehand it was a pretty good game.
Even in the second half we started OK, but as soon as Chelsea scored the second we went to pot, and until the last couple of minutes Cech was unworked. Pretty uninspiring performance. Thought Aurelio had a shocker, couldn't seem to do anything right. As for Lucas, don't think he did too badly at all considering the stick he gets.
Lots to do, never say never but it's more than an uphill task at Chelsea. I can't see us winning 3-0 or 3-1, but there again, I couldn't see us beating Madrid or Man U by the scores we did. Hope lives eternal.
The important thing now is to get a result on Sat and worry about Tuesday when it comes. Knowing our luck, we'll get knocked out on Tues and Man U will get knocked out the following night, I think we need Man U to play as many games as possible till the end of the season.

Fair assessment. As Garbielle Marcotti calls him - Essien is the whole freakin' show.
Liverpool are actually quite fortunate to 'only' be 2 down - it could and should have been more. Having said that, I half expected Liverpool to snatch a second towards the end. Cracking game.
His team selection on Saturday will be interesting. Cannot afford to drop any points against Blackburn but at the same time, he will still fancy his chances, even if slim, in the return leg. He'll bring Mascherano in but, as a United fan, I hope he rests Gerrard and Torres.
As an aside, it's all irrelevant if Barcelona are on form - they'll destroy Liverpool or Chelsea in the semi and I shudder to think what Messi would do to United's back 3 (plus O Shea) at the minute!

I think the 2 goal defecit will edge Rafa to concentrate on the League game more than the return leg now. If it had been 1 goal, then he might think we could beat Blackburn with a severely changed side and possibly rested Torres or Gerrard for the Chelsea game on Tues. Now, I presume it's all out to get the three points on Sat.
To be fair, Torres and Gerrard, when fit, seem to be playing all the games of late and the team seems to have a more settled feel about it and would imagine that continues till the end of the season.

Have Barca beaten any English side since Messi's played for them without playing against 10 men?
Messi's clearly a great player and Barca will be tough opponents, but the way people are wetting themselves over them is ridiculous. Bayern might as well have defended with mannequins with the way they defended.
Oh, and another thing. Half and half scarves, what the frigging hell is that all about. Yes, we had the bob hats in the 80's with half and half celtic/rangers which was bad enough, but Chelsea, fuk me. I felt sick seeing that.
What is going through the head of some of these post Premiership football fans, they are a fuking embarrassment. Shove your cameras, your shopping bags and half and half scarves up your booty and support your team, it's a football match, not a b@stard trip to Alton Towers.
