unfortunately it was the hooligans of the 70s/80s that led to this. clubs had to cage supporters in as if they were wild animals and something like this was always going to happen. RIP to the 96 who died and yes there should be some memorial at the ground remembering these

I was in Kells on the day of the disaster, such a sad thing to happen and remember the images on TV and in the paper and being quite upset by it all...sad day for the people of Liverpool and the families involved and for football as a whole.

generally the 80s was a time english football fans would like to forget with the bradford fire, the hesyl stadium and of course hillsborough. add to this falling attendances, ramshackle stadia, and terrace violence and things had to change which they did with new, safer grounds and a premier league.
tragedy was that it took several disasters to force the changes
we remember all those who perished in these horrible events
