Sentencing was due to be made the same week he signed his new deal, but the whole peverting the course of justice extravaganza then kicked off. I would think it unlikely that Rovers would have signed him without knowing the full details of the case which had already been concluded (bar the sentencing aspect), particularly with a solicitor as chairman.
I see
In that case, why the squealing from Rovers only now? Does Hudge need a spade, too?

Check my posts, I have condemned him completely and if the club sack him he will have got what he deserves, what I have seen as a common run through these discussions is people are more concerned that it was caught on CCTV, which does NOT make it any less or more serious. The only thing it proves is what he did is visible, while other players who have been convicted of assault are deemed less culpable because it was not there on the internet for all to see.
He has been convicted and sentenced in a court of law, now it seems the court of public opinion needs its pound of flesh as well, I jsy think we should leave it to the club and RFL to sort out. I agree a thug is a thug and we have had plenty of them in our sport, some can count themselves lucky there was no CCTV.

Rovers will surely have planned for the 2 eventualities, prison or no prison. I'm thinking they were probably going for the usual "we'll deal with it in-house" bollox but the RFL have got involved and/or the level of bad publicity has meant they're having to go for a tougher approach.

So long as its not for just this case, they have my backing. I hope whatever Cockayne gets certain others get as well, after all we should be ridding our game of all THUG'S, not just THUG.

Which is what i have said in my posts too . Because its on cctv it just brings it into the front room if you like, and then people take notice hence why we agree the RFL should act .

Indeed she has. Throws a whole new light on the Rovers' assessment of the situation and how they morally guage their signings?
IF this is true - Rovers should have been having these meetings two years ago as the sentencing of the crime is irrelevant to the fact that they knew the man to be guilty already AND the enormity of what he did.
IF this is true, Rovers are also guilty of double standards in that they were happy to continue to field Cockayne knowing this but then cry outrage and disciplinaries once the gravity of the offence is publicly acknowledged with a sentence and the CCTV release?
I was happy to assume the opposite, but if true - shame on Rovers, and shame on Churchill for using this as a gleeful opportunity to trump me regardless of the can of worms it opens.

as did Hull with Raynor and no doubt will saints and Wire if those two are fit. All the clubs have double standards in that case.
