For this reason alone rugby league should always have a presence on terrestrial television. Rather than debating the quality of Sky and the BBC's coverage I'd be more worried about the lack of interest in bidding for the rights to rugby league. Only one out of the four terrestrial companies have shown an interest.
Might be down to the fact that ALL TV companies are run by oxbridge types who have no concept of what is REALLY entertaining.
The Boat Race, which let's face it, is a few tarquins in a canoe, is treated like it's the pinnacle of sport. The Grand National is the ONLY day that 99% of the people who bet on it, actually place a bet all year and Wimbledon is a farce.
catch 22 really......
I can assure you, the visit of Manly to Harlequins was touted to every media available in London and the response was.......sorry, it's not soccer. If it wasn't for the public schooling of most editors and journos down here, Union wouldn't get a look in either.
My choice would be C5. They don't ever take something on board without really having a go at it. ITV would do what they have done with Union and stick it on ITV 78......and C4 would only show it if it was played on a desert island, by mixed teams all naked!
The BBC are a bunch of Tarquins who, if they lose the 6 nations, will soon all be out of work, because let's face it, apart from Top Gear....what else are they good for?
