This looks like some clubs got over the rules for the cap by paying the Aussies at the end of the contract, but only disclosing what they were paying during the season.
No wonder many Teams like Bradford, wigan and Saints were running at a lose despite the salary cap.
If it is retrospective will these teams involved have points deducted this season because we can not go back to other seasons because of the play off system.
I don't think this would affect us, who in their right mind whats to be associated with Salford.

If the government enforce retrospective payments and apply the new legislation to existing contract agreements it could potentially cost them more in the short term, especially if a few clubs go to the wall with large VAT arrears!
IMO the loophole is/was an oversight by the government and any new legislation should only apply to new player contracts. Why should the government be able to reclaim back more money from our clubs/game because of their past incompetence?

The players played here and were paid here and should pay tax here, if clubs exploited this tax dodge to get round the salary cap which I assume they did then they are liable. They knew the regulations, so face the punishment, just because some smart alec lawyer discovered a way of getting around the tax system is not necessary the Governments fault, but now thay have found it they have a right to get this money back.
No doubt after Lawyers still look at each piece of fiscal legislation and try and circumvent it to the good of their clients that is what they are paid very highly to do. It is just a game to them which pays a lot of money, a number of football clubs do the same as do the FA who have done a deal with the Inland Revenue to allow the European cup to be played at wembley and the players earnings are tax free, and some banks (surprised) are at it.
Yawnian are most likely the worst protaganists of this practice, the rule should be if you earn it here you pay the proper tax here no ifs or buts.
