I have been an FC fan since 79 and whilst I agree that the Derbies used to be the be all and end all, that was mainly because we were two of the best sides around.
That has changed now since SL came in and whilst it's nice to beat your neighbours it is not as important as it used to be.

I've followed Rovers since 1977 and still find the derbies special must win games and i dont believe any one who says they aren't that bothered about them

What makes me laugh is that in 2007 they were all looking forward to the derby games and having an easy 8 points from us, now its 'we are not bothered' or 'its just another game'. Is this because they actually think they are likely to get beat these days.

Not likely, but it's a definite possible. Rovers are now way better than the team we (me included) thought we'd get 8 points off. I now approach every derby with trepidation!

I still look forward to the Derby games and still want to win them, I just don't see the major importance that some fans put on them. Some of the Rovers/Hull fans are obsessed with what the other team are doing and that winning a derby is akin to winning a cup final.
