Would a team of past Wigan 'second-raters' be better than our current team?
i.e, players who wouldn't get into a Wigan dream team etc.
For example...
Phil Blake
Tony Iro, BJ Mather, Sam Panapa, Mark Preston,
Nigel Wright Bobby Goulding
Les Davidson Wayne Godwin Scott Quinnell
Simon Houghton Mike Forshaw
Billy McGinty

Interesting one that.
I don't think that any of the current side would even make it onto the bench of a WRLFC dream team - they wouldn't even make the same training squad (though I'm prepared to make allowances for the youngsters until we see how they turn out).
I'd say in most positions you could go down three or four deep before you'd even consider a current player.
For instance I'd say Hock is currently one of our better/consistent performers and where do you compare him against Clarke, Betts, Farrell, Hanley or Furner (OK so you'd have Hanley or Farrell at loose but the other would still make the dream team in the back row.
Full back? Pick one of Hampson, Radlinski, Lydon or Blake before you even consider Mathers.
And as for the 3/4 line forget it!! Over the last cpole of decades we've had some of the greatest wingers & centres you could have hoped to watch. I'll start you off - Bell, Iro (x2), Gill, Preston, Myers, Miles, Renouf, Conolly, Offiah, Dallas.
I purposely chose players who were good, but hardly ever first pick for the squad they were part of. All with games under their belt but all eventually fired off.

Blake was never a 'second rater', he only left the club because Jack Robinson signed Botica, John Monie never wanted him to leave, he was outstanding while at Wigan.

Just for the sake of fun... If you could have ANY player who's ever played for Wigan to be in our current 1st team now who would you have?
Maybe Greg to partner Sam? Maybe Platt in our front row? Dean Bell or Gene Miles in the centre? Faz for some leadership?
Looking forward to hearing your ideas, and hearing something more light-hearted!!
if we took your post literally im sure most of us could find 13 players and 4 subs who would get into the present team
ie..none of todays lot will ever feature in an all time best team list imo.
