He'll be coming. Question is, will people be happy to see the back of Goulding? Or is it another young Wigan player fired off before his time?
I'm happy with Goulding being released. Its best for him and the club.
Clubs will have to focus more on youth programmes with the new quota restrictions coming in but with the salary cap you have also have to be ruthless. Standards have dropped at Wigan, even amongst the fans - people are happy with a level of performance that wouldn't have been accepted 5 or so years ago.
The club needs to realise some players whilst decent on their day aren't good enough to take Wigan to where they want to be. The likes of Leuluai in his scrum half role, the new and most certainly not improved Fielden, Coley etc.
And when it comes to the younger players, I still can't think of players we've released who could take us to where we want to be. Robinson, Brown, Wild etc have thrived on being the big fishes in the small pond and thankfully we are seeing small amounts of their potential be turned into ability. But they're still not good enough to turn Wigan into champions. The mistakes have been the recruitment of players, not the releasing of players.
We need to get our recruitment right and be more ruthless with many players at our club who have had their chances. And that includes the younger generation such as Goulding and Mcilorum, Prescott/O'Carroll etc.
