The Americans are turning their ameteur competition professional in 2010, they claim there will be 8 full time teams in 8 cities to begin with, and they are holding trials across America in autumn this year. There are a lot of excellent athletes in the US who dont get drafted by the major leagues so there is a large athletic pool available but they would need educated in rugby league from the start so the initial years of competition might not be of high quality but there is potential.
I think if they can get more support from the likes of Russel Crowe in terms of promotion then it could get off the ground At the very least.
What do you all think of this, will it be good for rugby league?

I think its a great idea and bold move and hopefully will pay off. Good to see another nation trying somehting like this. Its going to be very difficult though and the standard wont be very high for a long while. There needs to be alot of rugby league education aswell.
Would like to see them get support from the NRL, Superleague and the RLIF for this.
Made me laugh looking at the rules page

They will only get players from the U/20's Youth Cup that dont make the NRL squads and lower league players from the UK.
No NRL or SL club will offer their players to play in this league.
Small steps first before you get the big fish.
They need quality coaching over there also. I hope they do well but i reckon it will be a couple of years before they can attract even a fringe 1st grader from either ESL or NRL level.

winning like never before. decoys. mouse traps. chicken wings. lollie pops. shepperds. the crusher. grapples. big league. In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11
