| Lots of positives & negatives really.
Briers was excellent, defensively I thought he was rock solid. I thought he was impressive throughout, much better appetite of work. I'm not happy with Gleeson at six though, he's not got good enough hands to play there for me. His passing is slow & inaccurate and you lose the threat he poses from the right. Hopefully Monaghan will be back shortly, if not, I'd like to see Bridge given gametime back there. He showed near the end, a cameo of what he's capable of in setting up that Hicks try.
I thought Mitchell & Johnson were great, really good yardage from the pair of them. PJ out of acting half is a handful. Shame that Harrison left they field, I know he came back on, I thought his work ethic was excellent, really looks impressive at the minute.
King was very good, did his work well, Riley waas good. Between them, two great chasebacks, Rileys especially.
Defensively, it was a bit like the old days at times, and much better at other times. Credit Celtic, they came to play, good ball movement, and I was genuinely impressed with them. Louis Anderson stank, he's crap. Penalties, errors, missed tackles. He just annoys me, he really does. I think he's lucky to be in the team right now, when Westwood is fit, he might not be so lucky.
Solid win, against a plucky Celtic side, too easy to say we weren't very good, they were good at times, We could have set our stall out early, 6-0 up and we bombed a few chances and invited them in etc. Anyhow, two on the spin, Salford next in SL. Looking up not down at least.

I seem to remember hearing one of the people who went to the SqB meeting (it might have been you GDMM) saying that Riley was increasingly taking the lead in bossing the defence about. That's something I'd like to see more of, and you could see he was trying to do just that today, but we were still ending up with a pretty lopsided defensive line whenever CC made a break.'"
By his own admission (at the SB meeting), he needs to be more vocal. It is something the coaching team are working on. I don't think it is fair to expect to drop into a position and have all the facets immediately.
It's a moot point anyway, as Mathers will be here imminently.

I wouldn't expect him to have all the facets, which is why I'd be looking towards someone like Higham/Clarke/Gleeson/Monaghan/Briers to be doing their bit as well.
Don't send me to sleep on a Sunday night contemplating Mathers. Nightmare-tastic.

| Quote ="getdownmonkeyman"Also, it is difficult to captain a side if you on the bench.'"
Plenty of good captains around the world play in the pack and have extended spells on the bench, Ruben Wiki did it for years for both club and country. Steve Price is another that managed it well at the Bulldogs where he took over from Darren Britt (Also another forward that was captain) and now he does the same at the Warriors, i`m sure Tallis captained Australia and Queensland.
Morley is a player that only knows one way to play and thats by giving 100% in each game, that doesn`t make him a natural captain though and to me he isn`t vocal enough to be a leader. Take Gorden Tallis and Andy Farrell as examples, both those had the skill of being able to communicate with stern words and both were very vocal and came across as natural and very respected leaders.
To me Mozza doesn`t come across as a natural leader as he seems a bit reserved when it comes to a vocal dressing down when the situation calls, the likes of Lee Briers wouldn`t come across the type of person you would respect getting a verbal dressing down from, a captain to me is a skilled role and i don`t think we have a natural in our club like Leeds have in Sinfield and Saints have in Cunningham just to use 2 examples from over here as leaders that drive their teams.

| Fair points. The obvious candidates are Monaghan or Clarke. Both like to talk, which is a good start.

We need a modern day Mike Gregory, someone who is respected in the game and isn`t affraid to bark out the orders where most importantly the players take note and listen, to be honest i don`t think many would take Monaghan serious as a captain after all the facial blaming he has done in the past, you know the look i mean where he stares at someone who has made a mistake as if to say your cr@p you are and i`m too good for all this.
If i remember right, isn`t Petrol Seventycentsalitre the new Penrith captain ? Thats just another possible example of a forward thats a captain at the top level.
To be honest i think we need to bring in a captain as its such a key role, a high class player thats respected where if he speaks the only thing you could do is to stand up and take notice.
