Matty Johns seemed to like him when they were talking about him briefly on the Footy Show

Garry Schofield, Ellery Hanley, Andy Currier, Lee Crooks (wot no Shaun Edwards) and now Gareth Ellis.

People could remember that when rubishing these players as they were rated enough in the ARL to get a mention 20 years on.

winning like never before. decoys. mouse traps. chicken wings. lollie pops. shepperds. the crusher. grapples. big league. In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

Have you any idea why the players got mentions and Tommy Bishop didn't?

There are interesting comments in the column to the right too.
It states that other ex-colleagues of Ellis are keen to test themselves in the NRL.
Who do we think these others may be?
Ablett, Hall, Burgess?

Trent barrett saying in footy show this week that ellis was stand out player here whilst he was at wigan. Well annoying setanta are scaling down their coverage. Seems they are going big on the aussie rules instead

I think Ellis will be a great success over there, IMO the way he plays is well suited to the game over there. Personaly I'd like to see a few other english guys go over there, I think from our current team, McGuire would benefit a lot from a spell in Aus as would Lee Smith, and possibly Burrow.
