Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity

Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

But..

It wasn't.. It was slow, full of errors and penalties and niether team looked like a top 4-5 team which I would expect us to beat.

It was still fairly entertaining with the Batley wingers and a couple other notable others and had a great tense finish but I wouldn't go saying it looked a great game etc..

I agree, not showing arrogance, after all, being a Fax fan, we've been on the receiveing end of this far too many times, Im just confident more so than in previous years.

Nash... sounded like an Aussie from bit I heard him chipping away to the ref.

Id also like to compliment Merrick on his handling of tonights game. He communicated his decisions well to the players & actually showed consitency. Lets hope he continues onwards & upwards.

on the downside, he seemed to forget which tackle it was & kept having to ask Leahy what number it was..... we'll have to look out for a set of 10 tackles when he ref's us!)

Not a bad game to watch, mistakes a plenty & Simpson actually ran his weight (probably since that game over at Fev yrs ago) & scored a couple of good tries. Missed kicks cost Batley the win.

Overall, we shouldnt have any worries when we play Batley in a couple of weeks, our pack looks to be the strongest by far in the league & we have pace to burn.

ps... even for Batley it looked a very poor crowd.

I thought Batley was very lucky to get a draw out of this game. Their last try was from field position given from a ball steal. That should have been play on, but the ref gave a knock on with feed to Batley, which they scored from.

Swings and roundabouts?

Batley away is always a tough game because of the hill. Just remember last year. We only won it late on with a ben black piece of magic. At home in a couple of weeks then hopefully should be easier with the advantage of no slope to worry about.

So long as we show respect to our opposition in all the games we play then we should have a good chance to win them all.

Halifax often cause there own problems by trying to be too fancy from the start (intercepted tries and all) and not getting the base set in the first 20 mins to build from.

Should be a good season.

That said, How many games have we scored a try in the opening 3 minutes or so. I reckon 2 or 3.

Not complaining, it's good to watch at times.

Just when it's not coming off, we often maybe try too hard on the odd pass. It's often why we drop the ball. It's just when the game is close we could cause our own down fall.

I hope they keep it up as it's better to watch then up the jumper stuff for 80 minutes and often comes off for us. Just pick the right time and a place.

Even better this year is the fact that we've got a good strong defence. That will keep us in games even when we're not firing goign forward.
